Dear Friends in Christ,
What a lovely weekend we had, with worship and the first fellowship dinner since last year!  And, we welcomed visitors: Roseanne Martinez, Mary Rivera, Marcia Blea and her great grandson, Paxton.

Thanks to Lucille Andrada, and her team of helpers, who made sure our dinner went smoothly.  Everything tasted so good, even better because it was at table with you!

Attention, crafty-types and seashell enthusiasts!  Anna Lee Schuster brought a box of seashells, large and small, which come from her family's time spent down on the Gulf of Mexico.  The box is sitting on the stage in Fellowship Hall.  If you want some, just get a bag and pick out what you want.  Anna Lee said she is happy to offer suggestions on what you might make with your seashells.  Nearly all of them are larger and in very good condition.

Today I will be running around getting ready to see my family.  Thank you to David Huffman who will be preaching this Sunday, July 25th.

Yesterday I addressed another "Great Moment in Heresy," by telling the story of the Donatists versus Rome.  There is a journal article about that at this address:  Reexamining Heresy: The Donatists.  It grew out of a time of terrific persecution under the Emperor Diocletian.  They argued whether Christians, who had recanted their faith in order to avoid certain death, should be "rebaptized" to be allowed back in church.  It took about 300 years and the rise of Islam to put the issue to bed.  Moments like these can be teaching moments for us to understand how doctrine gets formed. It is important to "test the spirits" and remember what our hearts confess to be true about God - sovereign, supremely wise, all-powerful, and who makes our imperfect works effective.  The Sunday after I return (July 31st) I believe the topic will be on "systematic theology," a strange term which has a huge impact on everything we believe.

I sure enjoyed that late-evening thunderstorm last night!  What amazing weather we've had lately.  I hope and pray that we continue to get such weather next month too.  May you stay hydrated and cool this week!  God bless you and keep you until we meet again.
Love,
Rev. Amy
