Greetings in Christ, Friends!
We had our Annual Meeting this past Sunday and you chose to keep me around as your pastor one more year. Thank you for the kind words of appreciation expressed during the meeting. The following officers were elected to serve as follows:
Julie Sursa for a second term as Elder
Jenna Morris for a first term as Elder - who will be ordained and installed at a date sometime in February
Marjorie McKenzie for a full term as Deacon.
Please note that the Nominating Committee (Ron Wilmot, Jenna Morris and AnnaLee Schuster) is still seeking another nominee for an open Deacon position.
About the Deacons:
It's a Board of Six Church Members. Their responsibilities are: setting up the Sacramental elements (Communion and Baptism), organizing funeral dinners and planning for Christmas Eve gift sacks. Their meetings are infrequent and usually just when needed. Consider whether God is calling to you to serve as a Deacon.
I am forwarding you an interesting article from The Presbyterian Outlook, which sends these weekly emails to pastors preparing for Sunday. However, Editor Jill Duffield writes powerful words about the message from Mark's Gospel and it is worth sharing with you. This Sunday's reading moves through four different short stories of Jesus who is being sought after by the crowds and his own disciples. Mark 1:29-39 shows us that Jesus moves around a lot and through many areas of life, in our private relationship to Him as well as all over the place. The disciples in the story are having a hard time keeping up and have to hunt him down in order to be with Him. I invite you to meditate on the questions at the bottom of the article.
Where is Jesus right now? Do you need to catch up with Him again?
Well, here are some places you can find Jesus this week:
Today yoga is at noon. Bring a mat and we'll meet up for a short session today (approx 20 minutes)
Tomorrow, Exercise, Eat and Pray starts at 9:00AM in the Fellowship Hall
Saturday 8:00AM - Men's Breakfast in the Fellowship Hall
Sunday 11:00AM - Worship with Holy Communion. Deacon Anna Lee Schuster is our Communion Deacon this month!
And prayer will reveal Jesus to you too. Here are some folks to pray for:
Mack McCord - hospitalized (he lives next door to your pastor)
Eric Rivera - still in pain
Yvette McFarland - recovery from surgery, physical therapy
Don Wellborn - recovery from surgery - critical
Theresa Gallegos-Brake - sick
For all those struck with the flu and those who are grieving having lost someone to the flu (it's been bad this year!)

**Tonight you can catch the State of the Union Address on just about every channel, or stream it live from the White House webpage live. It starts at 7PM MST.
Go Rattlers! Don't forget to go see our Rattlers play against the Texico Wolverines this Friday night. It's going to be quite a fight. The girls will be battling it out to keep their undefeated record and to hold onto their first place position in their division. The boys will play after that. Congratulations to Theresa and David Goldston's granddaughter, Reese, (8th grader!) who has moved up to play JV, so you might as well come early. Varsity games begin around 5:30PM in the Rattler Gym. If you just listen to the game on KTNM AM 1400, you might just hear our church's new ad.
It is hard to believe that this January is coming to an end tomorrow. February 6 will be the next meeting of our Elders, and take note that Lent begins on February 14th! To add to the laughs, Easter is on April Fools Day! 2018 is going to be an interesting year...
May God bless you and hold you this week.
Much love,
Pastor Amy
