She is experienced in Montessori-style education for children and posts blogs on blogger.com. Her blog is devoted to providing us worshipers with ideas on drawing children into worship, including them in worship, and speaking to them in ways that allow them to hear the Gospel for them too. (see http://www.worshipingwithchildren.blogspot.com/2014/03/year-the-third-sunday-of-easter-may-4.html for this Sunday's Lectionary study).
We often place such a high value on learning and intellect in our Presbyterian traditions. In fact, the meaning of the word "presbyterian" actually refers to the "elders" who lead and teach the church. The wisdom of an elder is necessary to a fully functioning church.
And yet, don't we go overboard with this grown up stuff? We are all children of God and we have to lead the way for the next generation of children to discover by watching us what it means to live together in freedom and generosity with the heart of a believer.
This Sunday the worship will center around the Road to Emmaus story and how the disciples realize that they have been walking with Jesus the entire time. Their hearts were burning. The reading from Acts say those disciples were "cut to the heart" with their conviction. The heart is such a strong image for Sunday, we'll focus on the heart this week. The image you see above, "The Real Me" is a great pictorial description of the heart of the disciple. Watch out! Worship will be getting a little more experimental and experiential, I hope, as we head into summer.
So listen to your heart this Easter Season. What is your heart telling you? And for what or whom does your heart burn?
See you Sunday!
From the heart,
Amy
