Hopefully you had a good Mother's Day weekend!
I came across a quote the other day, "God cannot be everywhere, so He created mothers." Theologically that's not quite right, for, in our faith tradition, God is "ubiquitous." But God certainly multiplies God's power whenever we do God's will and fulfill our purpose. As a person who will never have children, I think often about calling/vocation. Parenthood is a definite calling and it is not for everyone. Whenever we are parenting well, we are fulling God's calling. Because of God's grace, we are not limited to traditional roles, but may learn of more ways we can fulfill God's purpose, whether we are parents or not!

Cookbook Submissions: If you haven't yet, please forward to me your recipes, and a photo of yourself as soon as you can, as we will be producing the 2nd edition of our church cookbook. We've received one person's submissions. You can also just take a photo of your recipe card, or forward an email link. Maybe it's a recipe you have brought to a church dinner in the past? We need those as soon as you can get them to me, so Kenna can get the book updated this week.
Friends, the State Health Department updates us weekly on the status of the COVID-19 spread in New Mexico. It is usually a Tuesday by which we find out any updates on whether we will continue to stay home. I have spoken with a couple of doctors recently who believe we have not yet seen it peak in our state. Whether we can open for services this Sunday or not remains to be seen. I expect to know something this Tuesday.

Regarding offerings, please remember that during these times, our offerings have gone down significantly, only because we are not meeting in person right now. Offerings may be submitted the following ways:
-Mail to First Presbyterian Church, PO Box 367, Tucumcari, NM 88401
-Online at https://1stpreschurchtuc.weebly.com/, hit "Click to Give Now," and set up a profile. The church general fund is "Loving our Historic Building." Please call me at 575-708-0860 so I can talk you through that process.
-Call me or text me at 575-708-0860 and arrange for me to pick up your offering.
-I'm working on a fourth way using Google Pay, but that is not yet ready.
Good News: The Presbyterian Board of Pensions has waived our dues for three months. We have also received some assistance from the Small Business Administration. These two forms of help are temporary, but welcome.
Stay Healthy, Friends! We are living in very fluid times, full of uncertainty. We do not know how the pandemic will impact us for the long term, or for how long we will be held in our homes. As Christians, I believe we have a responsibility towards our neighbors, our fellow New Mexicans, to do what is right. The invisible enemy has shown us that our actions have an impact on others. I hope and pray that we each pursue practices which can help us keep healthy! If anyone wants a face mask, please let me know. I know of 3 people who are making them for anyone who needs one.
Brothers and Sisters, I am sure that our pandemic has been driving you a little stir-crazy. As I have said before, please remember that I am available to talk on the phone, pray with you, or we can meet up in a way that respects the current public health guidelines. I'm a phone call away.
Blessings be with you this week and always. Many hugs.
