Just a quick note to thank all of those who made sure that worship happened in our church on Sunday! I'm proud of this church, and that you know what to do in such moments. I heard that it was a touching service, to have the people of God leading worship. As you know, yours truly was too sick to make an appearance. I got "the gunk." You did not need to be around me!
For today, I am still recuperating, but am able to talk on the phone a little better.
Just to be safe, yoga is cancelled today.
I will be well enough by this Sunday to meet with any "wanna be singers" at 10:30 before church in the little meeting room to the left of the Narthex. We can look at a few pieces and talk about when to practice.
This time of Lent reminds us that Jesus was a human (fully human-fully divine). Jesus' humanity is revealed in his temptation in the wilderness, and in his struggle for justice against those in power. He sat with sinners. He ate with prostitutes. He spoke with Gentiles. He invited small children to sit and talk to him. He crossed boundaries to be with other humans from many walks of life. And it got him in trouble with those in power, who thought they could stop him by killing him.
From Jesus' example we are invited to accept our own humanity, which includes our weaknesses and limitations. It is a scary thing to accept, but it's a chance to take a step of faith, trusting in God and God's people to fill in the empty spots where we fall short. At a gift shop I recently found a travel cup that said on it, "I can do anything. I cannot do everything." When we admit that we are guilty of making ourselves idols, then we may discover grace.
Thanks to the Green Chile Gals for sending me an angel last night, in the form of Marj McKenzie, bearing a plate of delicious food! There's a communion sermon in there somewhere. If you are a Gal and you'd like to know where they're meeting next, we will keep you in the loop.
Just a note, please continue to hold Teresa Gallegos-Brake in your prayers. I spoke with her last night. She's still sick too. She still doesn't know exactly when we will have a service for Troy, but it likely will be Saturday next week (3/14). I should know something soon. You can email me to get her phone and address to send cards.
May God bless you and keep you this week. Stay warm tomorrow! It's going to get cold again.
Love,
Pastor Amy
