Hope that you had a blessed New Year's Holiday!
This past Sunday, Holy Communion Sunday, was a joyful reunion, since we all had to miss church last week. We had a good-sized bunch, especially given the lingering snow and ice.
Just less than 2 weeks from now, we are planning for the Annual Congregational meeting. This will take place during our third Sunday potluck supper. I do hope you plan to be there! Officers of the church, don't forget to submit your reports to Sharon Huffman ([email protected])
Please note a few items for your calendar:
No Yoga today - we will resume next week. Our lives are still a little topsy-turvy to start back up on this yet!
Wednesday and Friday - I will be at the office until approximately 1PM, unless in case of an emergency.
Exercise, Eat and Pray are at 9:00AM tomorrow and Friday.
Monday, Jan 11th - Green Chile Gals @ McFarland Home (rescheduled)
Add to your prayers:
- Kay Hart, who just received word of the death of her dad, Ed Goodell.
- Amber Varsallona's aunt, Frances Agnew, hospitalized, not doing well.
- Tom Anderson pursuing chemotherapy treatments (he has about 11 left, one every other week)
- Laura, granddaughter of the McKenzies, healing broken bones following car accident
- For all the ranchers who suffered devastating losses (mostly dairy cattle) in the recent blizzard
- Those struck by catastrophic flooding and tornadoes
What more do you need to add? Please reply to this message!
Spoiler Alert!
This Sunday the music part of our worship shall be led by Marjorie G. McKenzie! Thanks, Marj! And how appropriate, as it is the Sunday of the Baptism of our Lord. That is the day we remember the baptism of Jesus. For those of us who think baptism is purely about our own salvation through cleansing of sin, Jesus' baptism seems quite unnecessary. But if we consider the modern meaning of "pre-destination," Jesus' baptism makes a lot more sense. This is because in our baptism, God elects us with the Holy Spirit to serve. John Calvin defined faith as:
"A firm and certain knowledge of God's benevolence towards us,
founded upon the truth of the freely given promise in Christ,
both revealed to our minds
and sealed upon our hearts
through the Holy Spirit."
I am thankful to God for all of you, who have, in your own baptisms, discovered how God calls you to serve! See you Sunday.
God bless you and keep you today and always.
Love,
Pastor Amy
