Grace and Peace be with you, Friends!
My apologies for getting this out later than usual. The Green Chile Gals and I are in traction today, after an evening of decorating Fellowship Hall. Thanks to all who could drop everything last minute and get some lovely decorations up in time for our Christmas party on Saturday!
By the by, we have two special activities on Saturday, Dec 10th, which happens to also be Ron Wilmot's birthday!
-at 10am Saturday we have a Community Health Talk about "Senior Solutions" (see attached flyer)
-at 4:45PM Saturday, Christmas Singers rehearse for Christmas Eve
-at 6pm Saturday is the White Elephant Party. Bring a wrapped gift and some kind of "finger food" to share.
Next week, we have other fun stuff going on:
Wednesday, from 11:30-1:30 in Fellowship Hall, the Presbyterian Women are hosting a Christmas "Open House," for our neighborhood block. This is a "do drop in" event, so people can come and go on their lunch breaks. The whole point is to invite the neighborhood block so they see us as their neighborhood church. Betty and I will be seeking folks to drop off some simple sides and desserts.
Friday, at 7:00PM is the Christmas Cantata at Center Street United Methodist Church. Arrive early to ensure you have a seat!
With so much happening, it's a good thing this church is rather health-conscious. Today the yoga group meets at noon, as usual, to grab a little bit of peace and quiet. Exercise, Eat and Pray will continue to meet this week at the church too.
Prayer requests:
Wayne, as he prepares for cataract surgery tomorrow, and Sharon, who proceeds to heal up from hers.
Wilford Gallegos, still recovering from a stroke
Reagan Kenyon and her family
Travelers
Those who will be suffering from the extreme cold
Folks who grieve this holiday season
Family and friends who grieve the passing of Rev. Harold Armstrong. To assist his wife and children, a website has been set up for people to donate: https://www.gofundme.com/HaroldArmstrongFamily/donate
This past Sunday we lit the Advent candle of peace, and we talked about repentance as a path to peace with God and neighbor. This Sunday we will add a little bit more levity, lighting the candle of Joy! Here's a link to this Sunday's Scripture readings: https://www.presbyterianmission.org/devotion/revised-common-lectionary/2016/12/11/
Remember that we are actively collecting your special offerings for the Christmas Joy fund. If you would like to learn how Christmas Joy helps others, you can visit this site: https://www.presbyterianmission.org/story/christmas-joy-historically-presbyterian-racial-ethnic-school-new-mexico/ Interestingly, the Spillman family featured in the video went to the school I where I worked before coming to Tucumcari!
God is good, always. Make this a week of overflowing goodness from God to you and to everyone you meet. ("Praise God from whom all blessings flow...")
Much love from me to you this week.
Rev. Amy
