Hope that this Thanksgiving week is off to a good start.
Jesus Rules!
Last Sunday we celebrated the Reign of Christ and remembered just a little bit the ways that Jesus has been with us this past year. This Sunday is the birth of a new church year, as we begin with the season of Advent. We also got a taste of some beautiful music - an "Ode to Thanksgiving" duet played by Nancy and Kevin Mueller, and "The Potter's Hand" sung by the Sometime Singers.
Calling all Musicians!
Nancy is presently gathering up names of all the people who want to participate in the music for this season. Please send her an email at [email protected] and let her know so she can coordinate us. You won't be disappointed.
Deck the Halls on Saturday
Hope this Saturday at 3:00PM you can come by the sanctuary to help us deck the halls with greenery and the Advent wreath! It will be "all hands on deck" so we can ensure the highest degree of fellowship and fun! Bring some snacks if you want...or your Thanksgiving leftovers!
Happy Thanksgiving. It will be a short week for many as you head out of town to see your loved ones, or prepare for those who are coming to see you. Everyone be safe on your travels! I will also be in town.
Hark! If you are here on Sunday, please come at 9:30AM for a viewing of part I of "Hark! Listening for the Surprises of Advent." This is a video Bible study of the stories of Jesus' birth, featuring theologian Cynthia Rigby, a professor at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary. It will surprise you. If you want to watch the video online, let me know and I can provide access. Our access is limited to 6 people.
This Week:
Today yoga is happening at noon, and then the Quay-Z Quilters arrive at our church!
Tonight @5:30PM Elders meet. We hope to get a report from the Deacons too...
Good luck, Rattlers as they kick off the start of the Basketball season in Floyd! Rain those 3-pointers...
Tomorrow at 9:00AM the Exercise group will be there. I will be in the office till around 12:30PM.
I don't know if our Exercise group will meet on Friday or not. I will be in the office however till around noon that day.
Saturday: 3PM in the Sanctuary, please come and deck the halls with us. Many hands make light work.
Mark your Calendars for some special days:
Saturday, December 10th at 10:00am: Community Health Talk on Depression during the Holidays by Cassie Huffman.
Saturday, December 10th at 11:30/11:45am: Presbyterian Women throw a Christmas Party! You don't have to be Presbyterian, nor a woman. But please bring a dish for this special holiday luncheon. There will also be talk of 2016 mission plans.
Friday, December 18th at 7PM: Christmas Cantata at the Center Street United Methodist Church. Members of our church and around the community come together to sing. Come early to claim a seat! Refreshments will follow.
So as usual, our cups runneth over with excitement and joy. As Sunday's message reminded us, we are in the loving hands of the Potter. Jesus is in charge. That's something to celebrate!
Be well and give God thanks.
Love,
Pastor Amy
