Our Ruling Elders and Deacons are Ordained to their office and are elected by the congregation to a three year term.

They meet on a monthly basis to ensure that worship, education and care of the congregation is maintained.

  • They oversee the work of our Deacons.
  • They assist the pastor in bringing the communion meal to shut-ins.
  • They approve special offerings taken up by the church.
  • They approve the use of the building for special purposes, or by outside entities.
  • They approve the administration of the sacraments, approve the reception of new members, plan expenses, approve repairs of the church buildings, and many other administrative functions.
  • They appoint committees to nominate the elders and deacons, and when they need a new pastor, they appoint a search committee (called Pastor Nominating Committee).
  • They are the initial judicial body of the church to which people may go when they have a dispute within the church.
  • These are just a few of their functions.

Our Deacons are responsible for the care of our church.  The work "diakonos" from the Greek means servant or helper.  They are elected by the congregation to a three year term.

The responsibilities of a Deacon vary from church to church.  Our Deacons meet on a quarterly basis and as needed.

  • Like the Elders, they assist the pastor when she brings the sacrament of communion to our members at the assisted living facility.
  • They prepare each communion meal on first Sundays of each month.
  • They coordinate gatherings for fellowship such as during special holidays.
  • They coordinate meals for the grieving families when a church member has died.
  • They put together special goody bags that are given out after the Christmas Eve Service.
  • They provide the Palms for Palm Sunday, flowers for Mothers' Day.
  • They keep the pastor informed about the spiritual and emotional needs of individual church members, such as when someone is in the hospital.
  • They send flowers to the hospitalized.
