It's the second full week into Lent.
What separates you from God? Is it Facebook? Candy Crush Saga? March Madness? Chicken Fried Steak? A tendency to work too hard? Addiction to information?
Every one of us are charged in Lent with the task - no, the opportunity - to slow down and identify what prevents us from growing closer to God, our wellspring of new life.
Jesus fasted in the wilderness for 40 days. Perhaps not to demonstrate his power so much as to clarify and deepen his relationship to his Father. And when he was met with the temptations of power, greed and appetite, he was able to answer them. What do you need to do the same?
Look at what we've got going on this week at the church. Consider the obstacles that stand in the way of your participation.
Tonight, Tuesday night - Bible Study on Acts at 6:00PM - the whole community is invited - @ Church Library
Wednesday night - Stress-Release Yoga (using our awesome large screen and projector) 5:30PM - @ Fellowship Hall - the whole community is invited
Every Sunday - Worship at 11:00AM
Every Monday - Pastor's Sabbath Day
Tuesday, March 25 - Amy heads for ABQ for 1 day of Continuing Education with Prof. Cynthia Rigby of Austin Presbyterian Theol. Seminary for a lecture on: "Playful Theology" and a workshop called "What it Means to Believe in God"
Also in our news, we have hired Roma Domingues and Berta Hernandez as our new housekeepers. I believe on Mondays they will be in the church cleaning. We have agreed to a three month trial period, and so far they have been doing an excellent job!
I'm looking for submissions to go into our next newsletter, if you want to pass along special news, poetry, recipes, or more to add! Please let me know!
Blessings to you and your households this week,
Amy
