What a chilly start to our week. It is possible that tomorrow morning, it might be a bit too cold for our Exercise, Eat and Pray-ers tomorrow. If you are one of the "EEP" participants, please keep aware of this and if you want to meet tomorrow, give me a call.
I am finally home after being out of town for 3 full days at the Synod of the Southwest Annual Meeting, in Phoenix. As the Moderator of the entire meeting, this was a wonderful learning experience to serve and lead. I will continue to attend Synod meetings for 2 more years, as a commissioner from our Presbytery
The government of the Presbyterian Church USA is made up of layers like the layers of an onion. Our "inner" layer is our local church, governed by the Session. The next layer is the Presbytery. Wrapped around that is the Synod, which as a governing body helps to be our intermediary with the national church, General Assembly. The Presbyteries and Synods are also known as "Mid-Councils." These councils provide training opportunities to equip church ministers and elders, and offer funding support for mission project ideas. If you have some ideas, let me know!

This Thursday, October 31st is the 502nd Anniversary of Reformation Day, when the actions of Martin Luther lit the match that began the Reformation of the Church. The world was ready, I believe, and all it took was a spark. I am thankful, for with that came the ability of lay people - not just ordained ministers - to have a voice and participate in the church government. It was way of embracing something that I put a lot of faith in, which is the "priesthood of all believers."
This Friday is All Saints' Day. Traditionally, saints were honored on the anniversary of their martyrdom, marked as their "birthday" as a saint. After a while, there were so many saints to celebrate, that the traditional date of November 1st was chosen to be "All Saints' Day."
