Hope this week is off to a good start for all of you. First Presbyterian Church had a wonderful time together. Saturday the Men's Breakfast hosted 7 people and I heard they had a fun time. Thanks to David and Keith for bringing the food. Presbyterian Women also had a productive luncheon on that day, discussing the Rummage Sale plans and also coming up with a response to the hurricane-related disasters.
Donations for Hurricane Disaster Relief: PW decided to challenge you to make a donation to the Presbyterian Disaster Assistance. For every dollar you give, PW will match it, for up to $1,000. We passed a big bucket around the church this past Sunday and you gave $333! Great job! You have two more Sundays before we mail off our gift, so don't forget to come to church this week so you can help out. Potluck this Sunday! Robin Cherry has agreed to host. Thank you, Robin! As folks are cleaning up from the dinner, please stick around to help us roll out the tables so PW can start prepping for the Rummage Sale.
Visiting New Zealanders: We might have some extra help this Sunday, as the Rotary Club is hosting a group of Rotarians from New Zealand this weekend. I will have one staying with me, and Marge will have a bunch of them in her house. They depart for Las Cruces on Monday. I have been a little out of pocket lately just because I have been preparing the spare bedroom for my guest, whose name happens to be Grace.
Session Meeting Tonight: Elders, please let me know if you cannot make it to the meeting. An agenda is forthcoming.
Last week for Yoga and Quilters: If you attend the yoga or Quay-Z Quilters, this is your last day to meet until after the Rummage Sale (October 10th).
Calling all Singers! Harold Sloan is on the lookout for those who want to sing in the Cantata this year, and I think we will be singing in the tribute to veterans again on Veterans' Day weekend. So far I have Julie, Kenna and Jean (as well as myself). We could always use more men to sing. Tenors are a premium. Practice begins next week, September 20th at 7PM at Center Street United Methodist.
Prayers of thanksgiving and of concerns
So far our loved ones who have been in Hurricane-affected areas are okay.
Sharon has been feeling better
Travelers
The people in Southeast U.S. and the U.S. Islands
Zula Barnett (not doing well, not eating)
Kenna is doing better
Don Wellborn is doing great after surgery
I am attaching this past Sunday's sermon. Hopefully you will find a chuckle in there, as it seemed to do for the church. The sermon is about the high expectations God has of us and that we ought to have of each other. God bless you and keep you till we meet again.
Love,
Pastor Amy
