What a beautiful thing to wake up and see the ground darkened with rain. It's a joy for us, but let's not forget there are others who are getting way too much of it lately. We need to remember our friends in the South and East who are struggling with disastrous floods.
This Sunday is Communion Sunday, so I hope to see you there. Margie is the Deacon in Charge of the elements.
This Sunday we will begin a new Bible Study at 9:30AM in the Library. We will be taking a look at the Biblical Theology supporting the Belhar Confession. If you would like to read the Confession in its entirety, you can visit this page: Confession of Belhar It is the first time since 1984 that a confession of faith has been added to our denomination's constitution. Please come out and share your thoughts!
The Church has been decrying social injustice for a long time. In 1935, an ecumenical organization called out for change as the Nazi Government prepared to host the 1936 Olympics. American Christians and others suspected the Olympics were being used to support Nazi propaganda. Check out this fascinating slice of history from the Presbyterian Historical Society: http://www.history.pcusa.org/blog/2016/08/fair-play-and-1936-berlin-olympics
A few prayer requests were sent up on Sunday, but I wouldn't be surprised if there are more. Please forward your prayer requests to me, or you can contact Sharon Huffman to get your prayers lifted up through the Prayer Grapevine.
Please pray for:
Those stricken with flooding in the South and Southeast
Laura after surgery
Rachel Gelman, infection
Kaylie McKnight
Wayne Huffman (completing his treatment - hooray!)
The Cherry Family and the Sims Family
(By the way, this is Kayla's senior year and she's on the volleyball team. Please consider attending at least one or more of her games. It's great fun to sit with Robin and Mike and they sorely miss Barbara's being there. It costs $5 to get into the games. It means a lot for Kayla when we come and cheer her on! Attached is the volleyball schedule. Their next home games are this Friday and Saturday, and they play Logan next Tuesday here.) Let me know if you want to meet up with me.)
Not a lot doing this week, except yoga today @ noon, the quilters and our Exercise, Eat and Pray group at 9, M-W-F.
Upcoming dates:
Green Chile Gals, Monday, Sept 5
Community Health Talk, Saturday, Sept 17th, 10AM
Presbyterian Women Fall Meeting, Saturday, Sept 17th at noon
September Potluck: Sunday, Sept 18th, then we'll take down those tables for the Rummage Sale!
September is about to get busy! Don't forget to refresh your spirits and enjoy God's wonderful creation.
Blessed be your week.
Love
Pastor Amy
