Grace and Peace Ya'll!
Hope that you had a Happy Thanksgiving with people who love you.
Can you believe we are nearing the end of November? That means one thing. Advent begins this Sunday, Communion Sunday. Advent is a season of waiting, but not a passive waiting for Jesus. It is an active waiting when we prepare our hearts to receive the wondrous gift of grace whom we celebrate at Christmastide.
We have a lot happening around the church, as we make our preparations! Parties, decorating and doing works of grace and kindness towards one another. Remember the popular Christmas Carol:
"Hark! the herald angels sing,
"Glory to the new-born King!
Peace on earth, and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconciled."
Joyful, all ye nations, rise,
Join the triumph of the skies;..."
We declare peace on earth, mercy, reconciliation and God's ultimate triumph over sin, by preparing our own hearts for God and doing good works in Jesus' name.
There is, in fact, so much happening, I prepared for you a brief rundown of our many "happenings" on the church calendar. Scroll to the end to see the December Dates to Remember. Check our Online Church Calendar for the latest updates!
Yoga fans, we will be meeting today at church for our noon session. See you there!
Women of the church, it is that time again for us to meet at the Cornerstone Deli for the Dutch Treat Dames. We go Dutch Treat at noon tomorrow! Bring a friend for twice the fellowship.
Prayer Requests: We had a good sized group attend worship on Sunday, but no prayer requests were lifted up, except for travelers.
PW Gift Basket Project: Presbyterian Women are collecting items for a gift basket to present to our city police department as a way of expressing our best wishes for them during this season. We are inviting the church to help contribute items such as non perishable snack items, handy items (such as moisturizer or hand sanitizer, Kleenex, etc.). PW will begin assembling the basket during the weekend of December 8th, when we have our Christmas Luncheon. These items may be brought to church next Sunday, or call 575-708-0860 to arrange for them to be picked up!
Communion Sunday December 2nd: As many of you were out of town for Thanksgiving this weekend, I can't wait to see you this Sunday, which will be Holy Communion Sunday. Deacon Kenna McKenzie-Young is our Communion Deacon for December.
I look forward to beginning this season of Advent with you. May this be a blessed week.
Much Love,
Rev. Amy
