The Lord of the Dance be with you.
As the wind starts to whip up the last of the moisture for a while, you might notice driving by the church some boards attached to the east side of the Sanctuary roof! Those would be the beginnings of our new, 50-year-warranteed, hail-resistant shingles! You will be seeing Mr. Sanders (2 of them, by the way!) and their crew up there each day they have good weather and I ask of you to keep them in your prayers! It's very high up.
We had a joyful worship service on Sunday. Thank you ALL, for the Sunday off, and the special gifts, cards and bouquet during Pastor Appreciation Day. You honor me each day by letting me be a part of your lives.
I hear tell that the Men's Breakfast was fun and yummy. I think 8 men were there, in spite of how busy a weekend it was! Thanks, Men, for bring the PW your leftovers :)
Remember that this Saturday and Sunday will be the first "Shootout at Six-Shooter Siding" Disc Golf Tournament. Go over to Five Mile Park and see how these people can throw a disc (ie, Frisbee). It is way cooler than the way I can throw one.
Thank you all, also, for the many hands helping at the 2 day Rummage Sale. The PW has a Fall Meeting Planned (I think it's 11/4, but I'll let you know), when we will discuss how the sale went and when/whether we want to do it in the Spring.
I tried not to let the other event of the weekend mar what was a fabulous time. If you had not heard, however, a window in Fellowship Hall was broken and items stolen (mostly electronics and the red wagon). You will notice our carpet is torn where the brick hit the floor. Maybe our Rummage Sale advertising campaign was so effective, someone thought our church was worth breaking and entering. Praise be to God that they didn't take the Rummage Sale proceeds!
On top of the busy hands at the Rummage Sale, the busy hands preparing a beautiful reception for me yesterday on Pastor Appreciation Day, we also got busy cleaning up the glass, cleaning out the fridge and fixing up the office, which had gotten roughed up. Thank you all, and you know who you are. Surely a nap is in order now.
Session Meeting tomorrow evening: Elders, we will take our time tomorrow night during our regular meeting to talk about the break-in and what we need to do next. Tomorrow we will meet at 6:00PM, not 5:30, since a couple of us would be rushing to make it on time. An agenda is forthcoming.
Prayers:
Kay Hart and Amber Varsallona (injured in a car accident on Friday) - they are in Lubbock. Matt is looking for help getting a ride out there to be with his wife, Kay.
Center Street United Methodist Church - they were broken into last night and while there was some theft, there is primarily vandalism, including some very ugly graffitti.
Our troubled world, our nation's leaders
For the family and friends of Barbara Carter (graveside service in Logan this Friday at 10:00AM).
I want to send out good vibes and thanks to those who took leadership in worship on Sunday in order to give me that day off. Jenna did a great job leading worship and that Time out for Teaching moment!
In closing, there is no such thing as a perfect day on earth. In a large family, there is always someone crying, something painful happening, even as we celebrate and observe special days. Our weekend was full of ups and downs, because we are a large family. I thank God for you.
Much love,
Pastor Amy
