We had a fun Halloween Party this past Saturday, with around 20 people in attendance. Yummy food, silly costumes and games! Thank you, Kenna, for making it happen!
This past Sunday we observed the 500th anniversary of the start of the Protestant Reformation. It is not so much something to celebrate, but more to commemorate, for reformation is less a past event, and more an ongoing process of refinement by God's Holy Spirit. The sermon and prayers are below, and you can also find the sermon on our blog HERE.
We are entering a festive time of the year, as tomorrow is All Saints Day. You can find additional Scripture to inspire you at the Presbyterian Mission Agency website. You'll also see that Sunday, November 26th is "Christ the King" Sunday, commemorating the last Sunday of the church year. Advent begins Sunday, December 3rd. Where does the time go?
Here are a few other dates for your calendar:
Saturday, November 4th 8:00AM Men's Breakfast - Meet at the church Fellowship Hall. If you're coming, please notify David Goldston at 403-7910
Sunday, November 5th Communion Sunday - Don't forget to "Fall Back" - so turn your clocks back one hour, or you'll be late for church!
Saturday, November 11th Noon - Presbyterian Women Meeting and potluck luncheon; we have much to discuss!
Sunday, November 12th 1:30PM - Veterans' Day Tribute at the Elks Lodge. Quay County Community Choir will be singing in the program.
Sunday, November 19th - Potluck Sunday, and Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes must be returned.
Are you a painter or "wannabe" painter?
This Saturday there is an acrylics painting class at the Gallery on 2nd street. For the details and to sign up, call 461-9908. There is a fee to participate.
Prayer Requests
Family of B.J. Lawrence (LaVone's brother in law who passed away)
Our world
Travelers, particularly Marge McKenzie who is overseas
Marge C. McKenzie, who is recovering from last week's tumble
Jennie Lou (Linda's mom) who also had fallen
Mack McCord who is home from hospital, but not doing well; Jerrene also who came home sick
Operation Christmas Child: We need more Operation Christmas Child boxes, as after the special presentation from Judy Assini (of Center Street UMC), we were so inspired to get going we ran out! I will see about picking up some more this week. They get shipped out on November 20th, so please fill up your box and return them to us on or before Sunday, November 19th, Potluck Sunday.
That's probably plenty of news in one email. May you have a happy and safe Reformation, I mean, Halloween!
Love
Pastor Amy
