Hope that this week is off to a joyful start, and that your Labor Day was safe and restful. Other than seeing my college team get creamed by Ohio State, mine was great.
We had a small but joyful gathering for Sunday's Holy Communion Service. We had a repeat visitor, Mr. Frank Hamilton, who is preparing to move here from Follett, Texas. He is a member of First Presbyterian of Canadian, Texas, which is a part of the Palo Duro Presbytery. He's considering transferring his membership here. Please hold his discernment in your prayers.
If it seemed that I dropped off the earth for several days last week, it was because I came down with a cold, and it looks like I finally have it beat.
Did you know that September is "National Courtesy Month?" So it seems fitting that this Sunday's readings have something to do with our treatment of others. James speaks against the power of the tongue to set a wildfire of gossip. Jesus asks his disciples, "Who do you say that I am?" a question that should automatically cause us to consider how who Jesus is influences our own behaviors.
Announcements:
Rummage Sale: Just a couple short weeks before we start setting up for the Rummage Sale! Come to church for a yummy fellowship potluck dinner, and afterwards we'll put away the tables so we can begin to prepare for the the Sale. Potluck Supper will be on Sunday, September 20th following worship.
Movie Night: This Saturday, Sept 12th at 6:00PM we're watching "Howl's Moving Castle," an animated fantasy about a girl placed under a witch's curse, who must seek the help of a wizard with a walking castle! A story of love, jealousy and curses. Invite your friends and the kids you know. Rated PG.
Prayer Requests
- Marge McKenzie is traveling this week on a Rotary Club Friendship Exchange to British Columbia. Hold her in your prayer for safety, but also please remember her mom and her daughter in prayer that all will be fine while she's gone. If you'd like to call Marge C. at home to check on her, she'd love that.
- September 16th (next Wed) is Dorothy Randals' Birthday! It's also a big day for Teresa Gallegos-Brake, whose son in law Rudy is undergoing surgery on a tumor on his optic nerve.
- Richard Hart in awaiting a surgical procedure on his parathyroids, plus he is losing the use of his legs. Hold him and his family in prayer.
- Reagan Kenyon and her parents as she continues seeking experimental treatment for cancer.
There may be many other prayer requests you'd like to share with the church. Please let your prayers be known by replying to [email protected].
May your week be blessed!
Love,
Pastor Amy Pospichal
